FAQ

Here's a list of frequently asked questions we get:

Q. Can I take lessons even if I've never learned guitar?

A: Absolutely! Our course is pitched towards absolute beginners (zero experience) and also intermediate players (some experience, or just looking to improve a certain aspect of guitar)

Q: Is the guitar school easy to get to?

A: Yes, we're located centrally the Inner West, just a short ten minute drive from Haberfield, outside Ashfield train station. Parking is plentiful.

Q: Do I need my own guitar?

A: For the lesson, we are happy to lend you one, especially if you're coming straight from school or work but for the purposes of practicing you will need your own because you'll need to practice for at least 30 minutes a day if you're an adult.

Q: Is it hard to learn the guitar?

A: Initially, guitar can be a bit rough on the fingers and it does take some discipline but it's not really that difficult if you're committed. The hardest part is actually finding time to practice, and that goes for both adults and children. What we recommend is blocking out a half-hour chunk of time at least 6 days a week at a time when you're usually free and start from there. It will be the best thing you ever do for your guitar playing!

Q: Are one-on-one or group lessons better?

In our experience (and that's about 20 years) of teaching both one-on-on and group lessons, intro lessons are good to get you started and group lessons are the best to keep you motivated. That's because the power of "collective progress:" students tend to progress at the same level if they're learning in a group. Over time, your skill levels and practice averages will sync together. Basically your friends will keep you going when you're feeling demotivated and you'll do the same for them, keeping you hangin around in lessons for longer and learning more!
